Jonathan “Chris” Hamilton grew up in a small historic town in upstate New York where he discovered his love for early American architecture and started his first construction company at age 14 to learn as much as possible about restoring homes. He later graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design. Early in his career, he worked for design consulting firms in the Northeast on an array of projects ranging from furniture, medical devices to children’s toys. In the mid-1990s, Chris took these skills and applied them to designing and remodeling historic homes in Atlanta.
Chris was a founding partner of the design-build company, Dovetail Craftsmen, LLC. in Atlanta, Georgia that started in 1999 and has over 25 years of experience managing all aspects of design and construction. His company specialized in historic restorations, major remodels, as well as unique new construction homes. Chris has also done various design projects outside of Metro Atlanta including the design of homesteads and farmhouses in Arkansas and New York.
Chris is known his holistic approach incorporating extremely beautiful aesthetics, attention to detail and a strong working knowledge of all aspects of the design and build process. Chris has an uncanny ability to conceptualize unique changes in any space to enhance the beauty and the functionality accommodating today’s families and lifestyles.
“The houses that Chris designs just feel good when you walk through them”

Philosophy
“A house should be designed like a chair, functional for its purpose while being beautiful, comfortable and attainable at the appropriate price point”
“I work on people’s homes not their houses. A home
is where you live, and it becomes a member of your family. A house
is somewhere you live while you are looking for that home”.
“All of the people working on a home should think about how their work will impact the homeowner’s lives once the project is complete”.
